For those who want a bit more detail…

Plans for this years Easter training week are well underway and I can officially announce that the 2019 Easter trip will be to Trogir, Croatia. We can’t finalise some of the details until we actually know numbers an book the flights so the cost below are approximate. We also don’t know what will happen with Brexit and as many of the prices are in euros, if the pound tanks it may affect the total cost. We may find ourselves needing to get visas, if there is any cost associated that has not been included. .

For those of you who are new to SUSAC the Easter trip is the main training trip of the year. For many of you it will be your first open water dives and for some it will be your first time in the sea in a dry suit. This week is the perfect opportunity for you to get diving and work through the various experience dives you need to complete your OD training. There are training opportunities for all diver grades beyond OD so there will be training for all of our crossover divers and renewing members as well. You will need to have your own drysuit and have learned to dive in it before the trip, but we have put everything in place to make sure that this can happen in time for the trip. We will help you get your drysuit and have weekends in place for your training already, please make sure you order suits when told and sign up to the training weekends so you are prepared for this trip (you are likely to need 2 caperwray weekends).

We will be returning to Trogir Dive Centre, staying in self catering apartments around the small resort of Okrug Gornji, near Split, Croatia. Check out the centres website http://www.trogirdivingcenter.com/ or take a look at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1oVkHkEvAuo if you want to get an idea of the facilities and diving. They have a wide variety of scenic sites available to them, with reefs, walls, a few caves and good visibility – combined with the corals, sponges, crustaceans, octopus, fish and other marine life of the Med. A few of last years new recruits were lucky enough to see sea horses on their first sea dives! Although its the Med, water temperature at this time of year is expected to be 12-14c so this is definitely a dry suit trip.

The provisional dates for this trip are 16th-23rd April 2018. There is a chance these dates will change if there is a significant difference in price of the flights, but that will all be confirmed shortly once we know who is booked on the trip. The group flights I am currently looking at will fly from Manchester to Zadar and we will get a coach transfer from Zadar to Split which is approx 120km from the dive centre. In the past a few people driven to Croatia, or may want to organise their own flights. This isn’t a problem, please make sure you select this option on the sign up form.

You will be expected to transport all diving equipment except tanks and weight (these are provided by the dive centre), as you can imagine that weighs quite a bit so group flights will include 30kg +10kg. This will likely involve sharing a bag with someone else on the trip. If you want more baggage allowance please state on the sign up form.

Accommodation will be in shared apartments, there is option to self cater or there are several restaurants nearby. Expect to share a room with someone else on the trip and some people may be sharing double beds.

So what is this all going to cost you…
Diving and accommodation package – approx £420
The group flights and transfers – approx £210,
Levy and extras – approx £50
Food and drink in Croatia – this is at your own expense, facilities to self cater are available and there are several restaurants locally if you prefer not to self cater.
Transfers to and from Manchester Airport – TBC I will coordinate group transfer from Sheffield but you may choose to travel to the airport independently
Travel insurance – it is compulsory to have adequate medical cover for diving activities but this will be arranged by individuals at their own cost.
Some of costs are split across the group, if the group size or makeup is dramatically different to expectations this might change things slightly. A large component of the diving package is to be paid in euros, unfortunately thanks the Brexit the pound is significantly weaker than it was a year a go and more prone to fluctuations. We are working on the best way to pay for this to minimise additional cost caused by fluctuation in the exchange rate, this should be confirmed at time of booking. I appreciate that the full trip cost is a lot of money to ask for in one hit – because of that payment declines will be spread out between now and the start of the trip. The initial deposit is £100 which and is due before 30th November. If you have any issues paying the deposit please be in touch.

So what do you need to do next?

Please complete the sign up form https://goo.gl/forms/GDSpTlHdKFb4cRA83 and pay the deposit.

Don’t forget to complete the payment form so we can track your payment into the club account (www.susac.com/payment)

Im sure many of you will have questions before wanting to sign up so ask away. You can ask me, chat to instructors at lectures or pool, or chat to people who went on last years trip at any of our socials.

Roll on Easter!!!
